Tilt and pan are measured through the webcam's own orientation, so the camera must be built into — or clipped onto — the monitor you are aligning. A camera sitting on the desk or on a second screen will read nothing useful.

4 · Fly the lamps
Two white two red is square to your eyes. All white means it is aiming over your head — bring the top toward you. All red is the opposite.
